One of our members made a special request that we do the herb Oregon grape, so here it is! Enjoy! Oregon grape has a long tradition of treating liver congestion and infectious conditions of the stomach and intestines. The plant is well-known for its strong antibacterial, antimicrobial and antifungal properties. While the leaves and berries are edible (though very sour tasting), traditionally it is the roots that are used medicinally. Used externally, it has been clinically shown to soothe skin infections and diseases such as psoriasis. While the plant Barberry (Berberis vulgaris), has similar properties, it is in fact an entirely different plant. Oregon grape (Berberis nervosa) is considered the stronger of the two species.
