Magnolia bark is an important herb in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) for treating stress, anxiety, and insomnia. Similar to the flowers and buds, the bark has a lovely aromatic quality and also contains the compounds honokiol and magnolol that are associated with a wide variety of magnolias healing properties. It is also recognized in TCM as excellent for treating abdominal distension. It is very good at Warming and Transforming Phlegm and helping to direct Rebellious Lung Qi Downwards, treating coughs, wheezing, and a stifling sensation in the chest. It aids nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and food stagnation.
