The most common uses of chives as a medicine are to treat parasitic worms, fight colds and flu, and boost heart and bone health. Chives can also help protect against cancer, improve the immune system, regulate digestion, and protect against birth defects.
In Traditional Chinese Medicine, chives are identified as a Yang tonifying herb that helps to Warm the Middle. This means it will support a wide variety of Yang Deficiency syndromes from weak bones and teeth, to immune function, to hemorrhoids. It is excellent for treating cold hands and feet syndrome and is commonly used to treat digestive issues such as nausea, diarrhea, bloating, and eliminating parasites. It is also used to treat cold and flu symptoms such as coughs, wheezing, fevers, and headaches.
