There are several varieties of skutellaria (also called skullcap) that are used medicinally. All varieties can be used to treat hot oozing sores, including snakebites. The Chinese use it to help treat cancer. The herb Huang Qin (Scutellaria baicalensis) can be used to calm the fetus when heat is causing the baby to be excessively restless. Each variety has strong anti-inflammatory properties. The American genus is the mildest and often used to treat anxiety. It is even used for treating upset teething babies.
