Introducing Osha, a culinary and medicinal herb well known for helping to treat respiratory infections and various digestive issues. It has powerful antiviral properties that make it a wonderful herb for treating everything from flu to bronchitis to pneumonia.
Osha is one of the most widely used herbs in the Southwest. It is a seriously threatened plant in many areas due to over-harvesting, as it has so far defied cultivation outside its natural habitat.
It is considered an ideal pungent, warm, and sedating herb.
Two of Osha’s common names, love root and bear medicine, derive from Native American tribes observing bears eating the root and becoming amorous and more playful with each other.
In TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine), it is considered, among other attributes, to Release to the Exterior, Dispel Wind Cold, Stimulate the Lungs, Expel Phlegm, Support the Stomach, and Move Blood.
