Oregano has many applications, but is probably best known for its powerful antimicrobial, antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory properties. It is one of the herbs that remains at the top of the list for fighting all kinds of infections without disrupting intestinal and gut probiotics.
Oregano tea is also excellent for soothing frayed nerves and calming an upset stomach.
Oregano is an unusual herb in that it can be either cooling or warming. This lends it a broad scope of application for treating either hot or cold conditions.
In TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine), it is known for its ability to Clear Damp-Heat.
Sometimes called wild marjoram, oregano (O. vulgare/O. onites) is not to be confused with its close relative, sweet marjoram (O. majorana). They are different species.
