Dang Shen, Codonopsis, is said to be the poor man’s ginseng as it is less expensive than ginseng. It is another classic Chinese tonic herb recognized for its blood cleansing and stamina building properties. As it has a milder effect then ginseng it is often used in cases where a lighter touch is preferred. Codonopsis is used whenever there is a major change in temperatures, seasons, or simply a change in stress levels as it is an excellent adaptive herb. In China it is used in many everyday recipes and soups.
