Black, green, and white peppercorns are actually all the same fruit (Piper nigrum). The difference is derived from the different stages of development and processing methods. Pink peppercorns (Schinus molle) are an entirely different plant. Black pepper is the most pungent and flavorful of all the types of pepper.
